Tiller desktop app isn't recording on macOS

If the Tiller desktop app isn't recording meetings, or you see an error when you press Record, macOS is probably blocking one or more of the permissions Tiller needs. This article explains how to fix it.
Why this happens
macOS makes you approve each app before it can capture your screen, system audio or microphone. If Tiller is missing any of these permissions, recording will fail or only capture part of the conversation.
Tiller needs:
Accessibility, to detect your meeting apps and start recording
Screen & System Audio Recording, to capture other participants' audio
Microphone, to capture your voice
How to fix it
Note: You'll need your Mac's admin password or Touch ID. On macOS Monterey (12) or earlier, go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy instead.
1. Open Privacy & Security
Click the Apple menu and select System Settings.
Select Privacy & Security in the sidebar.
2. Turn on Accessibility
Select Accessibility.
Turn on Tiller.
If Tiller isn't listed, click +, select Tiller from your Applications folder, and click Open.
3. Turn on Screen & System Audio Recording
Go back to Privacy & Security and select Screen & System Audio Recording.
Turn on Tiller.
If prompted, click Quit & Reopen.
4. Allow microphone access
When macOS asks whether Tiller can access the microphone, click Allow.
If you don't see the prompt, go to Privacy & Security > Microphone and turn on Tiller.
5. Restart Tiller
Quit Tiller completely by pressing Cmd + Q, then reopen it. Closing the window isn't enough.
6. Test your recording
Join a meeting and click Record. Check that the recording captures both your voice and the other participants.
Once the permissions are in place, Tiller will automatically record meetings from your connected calendar.
Still having issues?
The permissions are already on. After an update, macOS sometimes stops recognising existing permissions. Turn Tiller off and back on for each permission, or remove it with – and add it back with +. Then restart Tiller.
The settings are greyed out. Your organisation may manage your Mac's security settings. Ask your IT team to allow Tiller for Accessibility, Screen & System Audio Recording and Microphone.
Auto-record isn't starting. Make sure your calendar is connected in Tiller and that the meeting appears in the app.
If the problem continues, contact us at hello@gotiller.com with your macOS version, Tiller app version, and a screenshot of any error.
Tip: use calendar invites
For the best results, schedule meetings with calendar invites. This lets Tiller start recording automatically, identify speakers correctly, and fill in your CRM with the right contacts and deals.
